This past week I had the opportunity to enjoy some time with my brothers and their families in Oregon. I don’t often see them, and so it is a great joy when we are able to gather as a family. Together we went to Vigil Mass on the last day of 2019. We arrive 30 minutes before Mass and surprisingly, we found the Lord exposed for all to adore. The light of the Church was dimmed down and there was a beam of light pointed toward the Host, which illuminated the whole altar. What a great time to thank God for the wonderful things received without deserving them this past year.
During that time, I took the opportunity not only to pray as a family with my brothers and their sons and daughters, but also to pray for all of you, your needs, your health, and your concerns. Most of all I prayed for strength and wisdom for all of us in our parish family. Strength and wisdom will help us to go places where only the friends on Jesus can go. St. James 3:17 says: “Wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, compliant, full of mercy and good fruits, without inconstancy or insincerity.” Wisdom will help us to move through anything that happens in this New Year, because if we are with Jesus, who can be against us.
After adoration we had the Vigil Mass, we took pictures, of course, and then we went to my brother Rafael’s house for dinner and waiting for the New Year to arrive. There was a lot of laughter and fun as we shared a great Mexican dinner and the exchange of gifts. I am always glad for the opportunity God gives me to spend time with my family. We have a lot to say, to learn, and to enjoy each other. I feel energized and ready for this New Year, filled with much promise.
May God bless you, and happy Epiphany! Sincerely,
Rev. Miguel Gonzalez
