I am sure you have noticed that we have moved two statues to the front of the Church in the sanctuary.  Some have asked if these were newly purchased.  They were not, they have been part of our Church even before 1950.  We simply took the statues which had previously been in the back of the Church and moved them to a place of greater prominence.  They are now much more visible.   I want to take this opportunity to thank Joni Walsh who took the time to refurbish the statues by touching up the paint.  I think they look wonderful.

Statues of saints have an important role to play in the devotional life of the Church.  They remind us of the heroic members of our Catholic Family who have gone faithfully gone before us.  Some common images or statues that may be found in a Catholic Church are: Saint Raphael, Our Lady of Lourdes, Saint Gabriel, Saint Michael, Our Lady of Mercy, Saint John, Saint Therese, Saint Ann, etc.  These inspire us to grow in holiness.

One of the statues that was moved is Saint Ann and by her side is our Blessed Virgin Mary when she was just a little girl.  The name of Ann in Hebrew means “grace.” According to Catholic Tradition, Saint Ann was the wife of Saint Joaquim and together they lived in Nazareth.  The Tradition of the Church indicates that an angel appeared to Ann and told her she would conceive a child who will be blessed by the world. They were blessed with Mary. As the mother of our Blessed Virgin Mary, Saint Ann was, therefore, the grandmother of Jesus. It was a miracle that she got pregnant with Mary since Ann was older. Joaquim and Ann were affluent financially and didn’t have any children.   

We now have a statue in a prominent place to venerate.  Let us pray to saint Ann that as she took care of and protected Mary, the mother of Jesus, we may always take care and protect others – especially those who are most vulnerable.

Estoy seguro que han notado que hemos movido dos estatuas al frente de la Iglesia, en el santuario. Algunos han preguntado si se compraron recientemente. No se compraron, ellas han sido parte de nuestra Iglesia incluso desde antes de 1950. Simplemente que las hemos tomado de la parte de atrás de la Iglesia y trasladado a un lugar de mayor prominencia. Las estatuas de santos desempeñan un papel importante en la vida devocional de la Iglesia. Nos recuerdan a los miembros heroicos de nuestra Familia Católica que nos han precedido fielmente. Algunas imágenes o estatuas comunes que se pueden encontrar en una Iglesia Católica son: San Rafael, Nuestra Señora de Lourdes, San Gabriel, San Miguel, Nuestra Señora de la Merced, San Juan, Santa Teresa, Santa Ana, etc. Estas nos inspiran a crecer en santidad.

Una de las estatuas que se trasladó es Santa Ana y a su lado está nuestra Santísima Virgen María cuando era solo una niña. El nombre de Ana en hebreo significa "gracia". Según la Tradición Católica, Santa Ana era esposa de San Joaquín y juntos vivían en Nazaret. La tradición de la Iglesia indica que un ángel se le apareció a Ana y le dijo que concebiría un hijo quien sería bendecido por el mundo. Ellos fueron bendecidos con María. Como madre de nuestra Santísima Virgen María, Santa Ana fue, por tanto, la abuela de Jesús. Fue un milagro que quedara embarazada de María ya que Ana era una mujer mayor. Joaquín y Ana eran ricos económicamente y no tenían hijos.

Ahora tenemos una estatua en un lugar destacado para venerar. Oremos a santa Ana para que, así como cuidó y protegió a María, la madre de Jesús, siempre podamos cuidar y proteger a los demás, especialmente a los más vulnerables.
