It is already the First Sunday of Advent. Time goes by quickly with our lives filled with work and activities. Once again, this beautiful season encourages us to engage in quiet reflection on the coming of Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We recognize that coming at Christmas and we anticipate his second coming at the end of time.
Jesus promised us that he would come back for us. But before he comes, he wants us to be ready and to be prepared.“Prepare the way of the Lord,” (Mk. 1:3) says John the Baptist.
We see the importance of being prepared in the days of Noah, “They did not know until the flood came and carried them all away” (Mt 24:39). People didn’t believe the warnings of Noah and many of them died in the flood for not following the command to repent and be prepared. In today’s gospel the Lord is cautioning us to be prepared and to repent. He patiently waits for us to change.
Let us then eliminate some of the busyness and noise of our lives during this Season of Advent so that we can quietly reflect on how to prepare for the coming of Christ. It is that attitude of mind and heart which will bring us comfort and peace.
May we embrace this holy season by changing our lives and being ready to greet our God.
Sincerely,
Rev. Miguel Gonzalez
