This weekend has been designated as “pledge weekend” for the Annual Catholic Appeal.  This is the time when we prayerfully consider how we will support the ministry of the Catholic Church in central Washington. That ministry includes formation of our seminarians, retirement funds to support our senior priests, youth ministry, prison ministry and so much more.  

Each of us are stewards of what God has given to us. This includes our very life, our faith, our gifts and our treasure.  When we give back to God a portion of our financial resources in support of the Church, we are not only being good stewards of treasure, but also good stewards of our faith and the larger Church. By being good stewards here and now, we respect the sacrifices of the generation of Catholics who have preceded us. We also pass on a healthy and vibrant Church for the generation which is to come.

Our theology of stewardship tells us that the Lord accepts our sacrifices, transforms them, and then gives them back to us.  We see that beautifully at every Mass.   We offer simple gifts of bread and wine in sacrifice.  God receives these gifts, transforms them, and then give them back to us in the form of the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ.  This is powerful testimony to the generosity of God and our need to be sacrificial and grateful for all we have received.

I invite you to join me in supporting the 2018 Annual Catholic Appeal.  Please prayerfully fill out a pledge as I have done in support of the Church.  Let us trust that God will never be outdone in generosity.  This means that our sacrificial gift will be received, transformed, and given back to us in great abundance.  Thanks be to God!

Este fin de semana ha sido designado como el "fin de semana de compromiso" para la Petición Católica Anual. Este es el momento en que consideramos con oración cómo apoyaremos el ministerio de la Iglesia Católica en el centro de Washington. Este ministerio incluye la formación de nuestros seminaristas, fondos de jubilación para apoyar a nuestros sacerdotes mayores, el ministerio de jóvenes, el ministerio de prisiones y muchos más.

Cada uno de nosotros es administrador de lo que Dios le ha dado. Esto incluye nuestra propia vida, nuestra fe, nuestros dones y nuestro tesoro. Cuando le devolvemos a Dios una parte de nuestros recursos financieros en apoyo de la Iglesia, no solo somos buenos administradores del tesoro, sino también buenos administradores de nuestra fe y de la Iglesia en general. Al ser buenos administradores aquí y ahora, respetamos los sacrificios de la generación de católicos que nos han precedido. También transmitimos una Iglesia sana y vibrante para la generación que está por venir.

Nuestra teología de la mayordomía nos dice que el Señor acepta nuestros sacrificios, los transforma y luego nos los devuelve. Lo vemos maravillosamente en cada misa. Ofrecemos regalos sencillos de pan y vino en sacrificio. Dios recibe estos regalos, los transforma y luego nos los devuelve en la forma del Cuerpo, la Sangre, el Alma y la Divinidad de Jesucristo. Este es un testimonio poderoso de la generosidad de Dios y nuestra necesidad de ser sacrificados y agradecidos por todo lo que hemos recibido.

Los invito a unirse a mí para apoyar la Campaña Católica Anual de 2019. Por favor, llene en oración una promesa como lo he hecho en apoyo de la Iglesia. Confiemos en que Dios nunca será superado en generosidad. Esto significa que nuestro regalo de sacrificio será recibido, transformado y devuelto a nosotros en gran abundancia. ¡Gracias a Dios!
