Today, we celebrate the XXXIII Sunday in ordinary time in our church. It is the end of our liturgical year. We, therefore, hear in our gospel about the end times. The focus of the liturgy on this final Sunday in the liturgical year points our attention to the need to be prepared. No one knows the date, the hour, or the time when all that we see and know comes to an end. Thus, we need to be ready at all times.

There is a two-fold aspect to being ready. The first has to do with the end of time and the passing away of our world. The second is our own passing from this life to the next. These two realities are inevitable and call us to prayerfully prepare.

Thinking about the end should not be an occasion of worry. Fear is a motivator, but not a very good one. Rather, our attention should be on the unconditional love and mercy of God. His love for us should inspire us to avoid sin and lead lives that are pleasing to Him. Following the commandments and rejecting evil in this life allows us to experience the light and love of God in the next.

Hoy celebramos el XXXIII domingo en tiempo ordinario en nuestra iglesia. Es el final del ano liturgico. Por lo tanto, escuchamos en el evangelio sobre los ultimos tiempos. El enfoque de la liturgia en este ultimo domingo del ano liturgico senala nuestra atencion sobre la necesidad de estar preparados. Nadie sabe el día ni la hora en que todo lo que vemos y sabemos llega a su fin. Por lo tanto, debemos estar listos en todo momento.

Hay un doble aspecto para estar listos. El primero tiene que ver con el fin de los tiempos. El segundo es nuestro propio paso de esta vida a la proxima. Estas dos realidades son inevitables y nos llaman a prepararnos en oracion.

Pensar en el final no debería ser motivo de preocupacion. El miedo es motivador, pero no muy bueno. Mas bien, nuestra atencion debe estar en el amor incondicional y la misericordia de Dios. Su amor por nosotros debería inspirarnos a evitar el pecado y llevar vidas que le agraden. Seguir los mandamientos y rechazar el mal en esta vida nos permite experimentar la luz y el amor de Dios en la proxima.
