As part our Lenten observance, we have now had two opportunities to participate in a parish mission focused on the Holy Eucharist. This time allowed us to get a deeper understanding of this beautiful sacrament. I am confident that this mission helped us to increase our appreciation for the Eucharist. My hope is that this will now lead to a deeper love for the Mass which is the greatest form of prayer we have as Catholics. Prayer, after all, is one of the important aspects of Lent.

We know too that the season of Lent is used as a time of preparation for Easter. This is why Lent is often defined as the way to the Passover. Lent and Easter become a unified whole. During Lent we contemplate the Passover of the Lord and our personal participation in the paschal mystery which begins with penance and culminates with the glory of Easter.  That Paschal Mystery is also something we observe every time we celebrate the Mass.

We embrace Christ’s Paschal Mystery in our own lives when we embrace our daily crosses and allow God to transform them into goodness and holiness. We bring our sufferings to the Mass and unite them with the cross of Christ – asking the Lord to give us the graces we need to die to sin and sufferings and rise again to new life. I am grateful to Sister Martha, Deacon Bill Dronen and Fernando Trujillo for assisting with our catechesis on the Eucharist during this Lenten season. Lent is an appropriate time to engage in a deeper study of our faith and we can be thankful for these individuals who have helped us.

Como parte de nuestra observancia de Cuaresma, ahora tuvimos dos oportunidades de participar en una misio n parroquial centrada en la Santa Eucaristí a.  Este tiempo nos permitio tener una comprensio n ma s profunda de este hermoso sacramento. Estoy seguro de que esta misio n nos ayudo a aumentar nuestro aprecio por la Eucaristí a. Mi esperanza es que esto conduzca ahora a un amor ma s profundo por la Misa que es la forma ma s grande de oracio n que tenemos como cato licos. La oracio n, despue s de todo, es uno de los aspectos mas importantes de la Cuaresma.

Sabemos tambie n que la temporada de la Cuaresma se utiliza como un tiempo de preparacio n para la Pascua. Es por eso que la Cuaresma se define a menudo como el camino a la Pascua. Cuaresma y Semana Santa se convierten en un todo unificado.  Durante la Cuaresma contemplamos la Pascua del Sen or y nuestra participacio n personal en el misterio pascual que comienza con la penitencia y culmina con la gloria de la Pascua. Ese Misterio Pascual tambie n es algo que observamos cada vez que celebramos la Misa.

Abrazamos el misterio pascual de Cristo en nuestras propias vidas cuando abrazamos nuestras cruces diarias y permitimos que Dios las transforme en bondad y santidad. Llevamos nuestros sufrimientos a la Misa y los unimos con la cruz de Cristo – pidiendo al Sen or que nos de la gracia que necesitamos para morir al pecado y los sufrimientos y resucitar a una nueva vida.

Agradezco a la Hermana Marta, al Dia cono Bill Dronen y Fernando Trujillo por colaborar en nuestra catequesis de la Eucaristí a durante esta Cuaresma. La Cuaresma es un momento apropiado para participar en un estudio ma s profundo de nuestra fe y podemos estar agradecidos por estas personas que nos han ayudado.
