November is here already! When it comes to the month of November, we see a significant change in seasons.  Leaves are falling from the trees; rain has begun to water our land again and colder temperatures have settled into the air.  The change in seasons and onset of winter coincides with a particular spiritual focus during the month of November.   

The Church sets the month of November aside as a time to remember and pray for our loved ones and friends who have died.  We remember all the good times we spent with them and we ask the Lord to purify their souls so that they may participate of his heavenly kingdom.

As Catholics, we believe that death does not change the fact that we are both body and soul.  In death, the soul is separated from the body but we do not lose focus on the fact that our goal is to be reunited – body and soul – at the end of time. Our hope for eternal life with a resurrected body is rooted in our baptism.

Baptism reminds us of the fact that we are meant to be citizens of Heaven.  That is the goal.  Through sin, we lost our relationship with God but our baptism returns us to the place we were intended to be – sons and daughters of God. In Baptism we are claimed by Jesus to be his own.

As we pray for our deceased loved ones and friends during the month of November, let us ask the Lord that they might be absolved of their sins and welcomed into the light and peace of Heaven.  May their souls one day, through the mercy of God, be reunited with a resurrected body and live joyfully forever in our true home.

¡Noviembre ya está aquí! Cuando se trata del mes de noviembre, vemos un cambio significativo en las estaciones del año. Las hojas se caen de los árboles, la lluvia ha comenzado a mojar nuestra tierra nuevamente y las temperaturas más frías se han asentado en el aire. El cambio de estaciones y el inicio del invierno coincide con un enfoque espiritual particular durante el mes de noviembre.

La Iglesia reserva el mes de noviembre como un momento para recordar y orar por nuestros seres queridos y amigos que han fallecido. Recordamos todos los buenos momentos que pasamos con ellos y le pedimos al Señor que purifique sus almas para que puedan participar de su reino celestial.

Como católicos, creemos que la muerte no cambia lo que somos, ya que somos ambos, cuerpo y alma. En la muerte, el alma se separa del cuerpo, pero no perdemos de vista el hecho de que nuestro objetivo es reunirnos con Dios, en cuerpo y alma, al final de los tiempos. Nuestra esperanza de vida eterna con un cuerpo resucitado tiene sus raíces en nuestro bautismo.

El bautismo nos recuerda el hecho de que estamos destinados a ser ciudadanos del cielo. Ese es el objetivo. A través del pecado, perdimos nuestra relación con Dios, pero nuestro bautismo nos devuelve al lugar que deberíamos estar: hijos e hijas de Dios. En el bautismo Jesús afirma que somos suyos.

Mientras oramos por nuestros seres queridos y amigos fallecidos durante el mes de noviembre, pidamos al Señor que sean absueltos de sus pecados y recibidos en la luz y la paz del cielo. Que sus almas un día, por la misericordia de Dios, se reúnan con un cuerpo resucitado y vivan gozosamente para siempre en nuestro verdadero hogar.
