“Take nothing with you for the journey” is an important command in this Sunday’s gospel. The Lord sends his disciples out two by two to preach the Good News but he tells them to take nothing along with them. They Lord wanted them to be focused on their ministry and not distracted by possessions which would compete for their attention. Not having anything extra also allowed people to exercise charity toward the disciples as they preached from town to town.
Even today the Lord continues his commissioning of us as his disciples to preach and teach and share the good news of salvation to all the world. We too are called to do this well by eliminating distractions and unnecessary competition for the mission at hand. We need to be constantly vigilant about those things that are weighing us down and distracting us from living fully our Catholic faith.
This attitude of vigilance also helps us to trust. When we don’t worry about possessions or money and when we set aside distractions, we do so in a spirit of trust that God will take care of us.
Today, we are reminded again, that Jesus has sent us to the world to proclaim his message. Let us confidently preach his gospel with our lives that are uncluttered so that people may know that we are his disciples.
Sincerely,
Rev.
Sinceramente,
Rev. Miguel González
