From your Pastor…

For the past two weeks, I had the privilege of having my mom stay with me at the rectory. We took the opportunity to come to Mass and eat together as she cooked almost daily.  We visited her sisters in    Seattle and we were also in Oregon visiting my brothers and their families. Finally, my brothers came to visit me and we celebrated the baptism of two of my little nieces, Eva and Janet. All this time it has been a celebration of family where I have been having the opportunity to enjoy my family and to spend time together to grow deeper in our relationships.

This weekend we celebrate “Mother’s Day” and I am so happy that my mom is here with her three sons.  This celebration allows us to give thanks to God for our mothers and to thank our mothers for loving us and caring for us. Probably everyone can remember the good moments they spent with their moms. I am so glad that many sons and daughters are still helping their moms and caring for them even when they live far away.  Exodus 20:12 says, “Honor your father and mother so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.”

We thank our moms for their love and efforts at forming us in every way.  We thank them for their many sleepless nights when we were sick and needed care.  We are grateful for the ways they encouraged us and cheered us along.

With our mother, we learned how to say for the first time the word “Mom” and we also learned how to love. With her, we felt protected and affirmed, supported and at peace. May God bless all our moms and give them joy and peace of mind and heart.

Durante las últimas dos semanas, tuve el privilegio de que mi mamá estuviera conmigo en la rectoría. Aprovechamos para venir a Misa y comer juntos. Como ella cocinaba casi todos los días. Visitamos a sus hermanas en Seattle y también estuvimos en Oregon visitando a mis hermanos y sus familias. Finalmente, mis hermanos vinieron a visitarme y celebramos el bautizo de dos de mis sobrinitas, Eva y Janet. Todo este tiempo ha sido una celebración familiar donde he tenido la oportunidad de disfrutar de mi familia y pasar tiempo con ellos para profundizar nuestra relación.

Este fin de semana celebramos el “Día de la Madre” y estoy muy feliz de que mi mamá esté aquí con sus tres hijos. Esta celebración nos permite dar gracias a Dios por nuestras madres y agradecer a nuestras madres por amarnos y cuidarnos. Probablemente todos puedan recordar los buenos momentos que pasaron con sus mamás. Estoy muy contento de que muchos hijos e hijas sigan ayudando a sus madres y cuidándolas, incluso cuando viven lejos. Éxodo 20:12 dice: “Honra a tu padre y a tu madre para que seas de larga vida en la tierra que el Señor tu Dios te da”.

Agradecemos a nuestras mamás por su amor y esfuerzo por formarnos en todos los sentidos. Les agradecemos por sus muchas noches en vela cuando estábamos enfermos y necesitábamos atención. Estamos agradecidos por las formas en que nos alentaron y animaron.

Con nuestra madre aprendimos a decir por primera vez la palabra “mamá” y también aprendimos a amar. Con ella nos sentimos protegidos y afirmados, apoyados y en paz. Que Dios bendiga a todas nuestras mamás y les de alegría y paz mental y de corazón.
