From your Pastor,

The day has arrived for deacon Jorge to say Good-bye to us. Our hearts are filled with gratitude for his service in our Parish of our Lady of the Assumption. Through all these years he has served in a variety of ministries: he led multiple Communion services, he gave homilies, he was a catechist for our children and adults, he led pre-baptismal classes for parents, he helped couples during pre-marriage classes, he visited the sick and gave them Holy Communion, he taught and led the Ultreya group and he has been an inspiration for many of our parishioners who participated in the Cursillo movement.  If this wasn’t enough, he also led RCIA in Spanish, he participated in the many social activities and community building opportunities we have had in our parish.  Wow!

We are grateful for the ways Jorge responded to the gifts and talents God gave to him which he in turn used in service of our people. I admire his commitment and his passion to give himself in every single liturgy and activity in which he participated. His accomplishments are the result of his love for God and His Church. He showed us and taught us that love can move mountains and that love gave him the strength and trust to go even beyond the needs of his own family to fulfill and nurture the spiritual needs of our parishioners. And he did all these things without seeking attention or praise.  He simply wanted to serve God himself.     

Behind every great man is a great woman. We know that, as a permanent deacon, Jorge could not have served without the love and support of his wonderful wife, Maria Calderilla. In his ministry we have not only seen Deacon Jorge, but also Maria who was at his side. Maria has helped at the liturgy in Masses, she has been Eucharistic Minister, a host, administrator of the food sale, visitor to the sick, serving as a team member with Ultreya – which is just to mention a few of the ways she has served.  Maria has shown us that it is possible to live our lives with great joy even in times of confusion when the joy comes from God. She has also expressed the reality that we can preach the gospel in quiet and “behind the scenes” kind of ways.  She only uses words, when necessary, in imitation of St. Francis of Assisi and the Blessed Virgin Mary who “kept everything in her heart.”

Deacon Jorge and Maria, we will always be grateful to both of you for your service, your love and your care without measure. We wish you all the best as you move on to another parish.  May God bless you and reward your vocation, your marriage and your ministry.

De parte de su Pastor…          

Ha llegado el día de despedirnos de nuestro diácono Jorge. Nuestros corazones están llenos de gratitud por su servicio en nuestra Parroquia. A lo largo de todos estos años ha servido en una gran variedad de ministerios: dirigió múltiples servicios de Comunión, predicó homilías, fue catequista para nuestros niños y adultos, dirigió clases prebautismales para padres y padrinos, ayudó a parejas durante las clases prematrimoniales, llevó la Comunión a los enfermos, enseñó y dirigió el grupo de Ultreya y ha sido una inspiración para muchos de nuestros feligreses a participar en el movimiento de Cursillo. Si esto no fuera suficiente, también dirigió el RICA en español, participó en muchas actividades sociales y oportunidades para construir la comunidad en nuestra parroquia.

Estamos agradecidos por la forma en que Jorge ha respondido a los dones y talentos que Dios le dio y que a su vez usó al servicio de nuestra gente. Admiro su compromiso y su pasión al entregarse en cada liturgia y actividad en la cual ha participado. Sus logros son el resultado de su amor por Dios y su Iglesia. Nos mostró y enseñó que el amor puede mover montañas y ese amor le dio la fuerza y ​​la confianza para ir incluso más allá de las necesidades de su propia familia para satisfacer y nutrir las necesidades espirituales de nuestros parroquianos. Hizo todas estas cosas sin buscar atención o popularidad. Simplemente por servir a Dios mismo.

Detrás de un gran hombre hay una gran mujer. Sabemos que, como diácono permanente, Jorge no podría haber servido sin el amor y el apoyo de su maravillosa esposa, María Calderilla. En su ministerio no hemos visto al diácono Jorge solo, a su lado siempre ha estado María. María ha ayudado en la liturgia de las Misas, ha sido Ministro de Eucaristía, hospitalidad, líder en la venta de comida, ha visitado a los enfermos, ha ayudado como miembro del equipo de Ultreya. Estas son solo algunas de las maneras en que ha servido a nuestra comunidad. María nos ha mostrado que es posible vivir nuestras vidas con gran alegría incluso en tiempos de confusión, si la alegría viene de Dios. También ha expresado la realidad de que podemos predicar el evangelio en silencio aun cuando nadie te ve. Ella utiliza palabras solo cuando es necesario, a imitación de San Francisco de Asís y la Santísima Virgen María que “guardaba todo en su corazón”.

Diácono Jorge y María, siempre estaremos agradecidos con ambos por su servicio, su amor y su cuidado sin medida. Les deseamos todo lo mejor al mudarse a otra parroquia. Que Dios los bendiga y recompense su vocación, su matrimonio y su ministerio.
