From your Pastor…

This Saturday, January 22nd, was the unfortunate anniversary of Roe V. Wade and thus a day to pray for the protection of all human life, especially the unborn. It is one thing to witness death and destruction coming from natural causes – fire, storms, disease and old age.  It is entirely another thing to witness the sad taking of human life through abortion.  The latter is always and everywhere intrinsically evil.

All too often people choose abortion for selfish reasons.  Personal wants and circumstances trump the rights of the unborn child developing in the womb.  Many people, even some Catholic politicians, have tried to justify this sinful action, but to choose to kill a little person who cannot have a voice or a say or cannot use their strength to stop us is a sin and is not justified before God. God did not leave us in charge of taking the lives of others but He said “Love one another as I have loved you” (Jn 13:34). This is a commandment that he left to us and we will have to give an account to Him for when we didn’t protect life from conception to natural death.   

People might justify abortion by saying that the developing fetus is simply a blob of tissue.  Science tells us this is not true.  Advances in medical technology reveal the presence of an unborn human person.  Our faith tells us that since the very moment of conception, the Lord instills us with divine life.   God doesn’t wait until children are born to insert his divinity but from the moment of conception, we acquired dignity. Abortion terminates and frustrates God’s plan in the life of that human being.

Let us pray for the end of abortion, let us also pray that those who have repented from supporting or committing abortion.  May they find the rich love and endless mercy of God.  And may all of us continue to fight for the sanctity and dignity of all human life – from conception to natural death.

Este sábado 22 de enero fue el desafortunado aniversario de Roe V. Wade y, por lo tanto, fue un día para orar por la protección de la vida humana, especialmente la de los no nacidos. Una cosa es presenciar la muerte y la destrucción por causas naturales: incendios, tormentas, enfermedades y vejez. Otra cosa es ser testigo de la triste pérdida de vidas humanas a través del aborto. Este último es siempre y en todas partes intrínsecamente malo.

Con mucha frecuencia, las personas eligen el aborto por razones egoístas. Las necesidades y circunstancias personales prevalecen sobre los derechos del niño por nacer que se desarrolla en el útero. Muchas personas, incluso algunos políticos católicos, han tratado de justificar esta acción pecaminosa, pero elegir matar a una personita que no puede tener voz ni voto o no puede usar su fuerza para detenernos es un pecado y no está justificado ante Dios. Dios no nos dejó a cargo de quitar la vida a los demás, sino que dijo: “Ámense como yo los he amado” (Jn 13,34). Este es un mandamiento que nos dejó y tendremos que darle cuenta de cuando no protegimos la vida desde la concepción hasta la muerte natural.

La gente podría justificar el aborto diciendo que el feto en desarrollo es simplemente un tejido. La ciencia nos dice que esto no es cierto. Los avances en la tecnología médica revelan la presencia de una persona humana no nacida. Nuestra fe nos dice que, desde el mismo momento de la concepción, el Señor nos infunde la vida divina. Dios no espera a que nazcan los niños para insertar su divinidad, sino que desde el momento de la concepción adquirimos dignidad. El aborto termina y frustra el plan de Dios en la vida de ese ser humano.

Oremos por el fin del aborto, oremos también por aquellos que se han arrepentido de apoyar o cometer aborto. Que encuentren el amor y la infinita misericordia de Dios. Y que todos nosotros sigamos luchando por la santidad y la dignidad de toda vida humana, desde la concepción hasta la muerte natural.
