After much planning and study, we have finally set upon an exterior design of our new church. It will be built according to a “Neoclassical” style. Neoclassical architecture flourished approximately between 1750 and 1900. It combines the best of Greek and Roman design. Some examples of this style can be seen in the Baltimore Cathedral, the White House, and the United States Treasury Building, etc.
The characteristics of this style of architecture are nobility, simplicity, symmetry, balance, domes, columns, and windows which are called “Palladian and Norman Wheel Windows.” Our new church will turn our minds and hearts to the transcendence of God and be a symbol of sacred worship for all to see. It will no doubt be a beautiful addition to the City of Peshastin.
The entrance of the church will have an inscription that reads, “The House of God and the Gate to Heaven” which reflects our Catholic theology in the salvific nature of the sacraments. The Paschal Mystery of Jesus Christ is reflected in the cruciform shape of the foundation. The whole building points us to Jesus Christ as our only hope for salvation.
On a practical manner, the Parish Offices will be located immediately next to the church. There will also be a spacious building for classrooms and our Parish Center. The rectory will be located in the back of the property.
The cost of this construction demands that we be responsible and prudent. That is why we intend on building in phases. Phase one will be the classrooms, offices, parish center and rectory. We will celebrate Mass in the parish center while we prepare for phase two, during which the church itself will be built.
The speed at which all of this happens depends on the success of our fundraising efforts. God has blessed us thus far and I have every confidence that will continue in the future through the financial sacrifices from so many of you.
Let us continue along this journey asking the Lord to help us construct this beautiful house in Peshastin for His honor and glory.
Sincerely,
Rev. Miguel Gonzalez
