If you are like me, it seems that we are getting a little tired of the snow. Enough already! To be fair, up until now it has been a pretty mild winter. We’ve been waiting for snow and now it has come in abundance. Snow can cause inconvenience in our lives and keep us from fulfilling our duties on time. Moreover, we know that snow on the roads can be the sources of many accidents.

On the other hand, snow can be very beneficial. We need the snow pack on the mountains to give us an adequate amount of water throughout the year. Snow is also quite beautiful. Just think about how many winter photos you have seen of this picturesque area of our state. Snow doesn’t only look beautiful in pictures but it can also remind us of the psalm 51 which says, “Behold, you desire true sincerity; and secretly you teach me wisdom. Cleanse me with hyssop, that I may be pure; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.” The snow is a constant reminder of how clean we have to be inside, even whiter than the snow according to the psalmist. The dirt and ugliness of the world is covered by the beauty of snow and everything looks perfect.

This is a metaphor for our souls. Our souls are to be kept safe from anything that could defile them. According to Matthew what defiles is what comes from our mouth. James 3:6 says, "the tongue also is a fire, a world of wickedness among the parts of the body. It pollutes the whole person, sets the course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.”  This is why we should all be careful about what we say. Words can defile the beauty of our souls and damage our relationship with the Lord and one another.

As it continues snowing, let us enjoy it and see it as a reminder of what the Lord expect from us, to have souls whiter than snow.

Si eres como yo, parece que nos estamos cansando un poco de la nieve. ¡Basta ya! Para ser justos, hasta ahora ha sido un invierno bastante suave. Hemos estado esperando la nieve y ahora ha llegado en abundancia. La nieve puede causar inconvenientes en nuestras vidas y nos impide cumplir con nuestros deberes a tiempo. Ademas, sabemos que la nieve en las carreteras puede ser la fuente de muchos accidentes.

Por otro lado, la nieve puede ser muy beneficiosa. Necesitamos nieve en las montanas para darnos una cantidad adecuada de agua durante todo el ano. La nieve tambien es bastante hermosa. Solo piense en cuantas fotos de invierno ha visto de esta pintoresca area de nuestro estado. La nieve no solo se ve hermosa en las imagenes, sino que tambien nos recuerda el Salmo 51 que dice: “ Mas Tú amas la verdad en lo íntimo del ser, y en lo secreto me en- señas la sabiduría. Rocíame con el hisopo, y seré limpio, lávame, y quedaré más blanco que la nieve. La nieve es un recordatorio constante de lo limpios que debemos ser los interiores, incluso mas blanca que la nieve segun el salmista. La suciedad y la fealdad del mundo estan cubiertas por la belleza de la nieve y todo parece perfecto.

Esta es una metafora para nuestras almas. Nuestras almas deben mantenerse a salvo de cualquier cosa que pueda profanarlas. Segun Mateo lo que profana es lo que sale de nuestra boca. Santiago 3: 6 dice que También la lengua es un fuego, un mundo de maldad. Siendo uno de nuestros órganos, contamina todo el cuerpo y, encendida por el infierno, prende a su vez fuego a todo el curso de la vida. Es por eso que todos debemos tener cuidado con lo que decimos. Las palabras pueden manchar la belleza de nuestras almas y danar nuestra relacion con el Senor y entre nosotros.

Mientras continua nevando, disfrutemoslo y veamos como un recordatorio de lo que el Senor espera de nosotros, tener almas mas blancas que la nieve.
