Today, we celebrate the manifestation of God’s love and compassion to the world through the Feast of the Epiphany. This feast reminds us that God sent his only begotten Son to the world to save all of humankind. He does not limit himself to save some people, his desire is to save everyone. This is represented by the three Magi who come from distant lands to worship the new born King.

At the manger, the three kings bring gifts to the baby Jesus which reveal his dignity as God as well as his destiny to save the human race from eternal sin and death. These kings from the east prostrate themselves. After giving homage, the gospel tells us they returned to their homes by another way. This is very important to note because once we encounter the Lord, we are called to change our ways and to follow him home in a different fashion.

God’s love and compassion is limitless. Today, on the Epiphany of the Lord, we too are called to give gifts which reflect the love and compassion of God. These gifts are not gold, frankincense, and myrr but instead things like generosity, respect, compassion and kindness. When we offer these gifts to others, we offer them to the new born King.

Like the Magi, may each one of us bring gifts to the Lord which manifest his divinity, compassion and love. After all, these gifts have the power to lead others to recognize God in the midst of a manger.

Hoy celebramos la manifestación del amor y la compasión de Dios hacia el mundo a través de la Fiesta de la Epifanía. Esta fiesta nos recuerda que Dios envió a su Hijo unigénito al mundo para salvar a toda la humanidad. El no se limita a salvar a algunas personas, su deseo es salvar a todos. Esto está representado por los tres Reyes Magos que vienen de tierras lejanas para adorar al Rey recién nacido.

En el pesebre, los tres reyes traen regalos al bebé Jesús, que revelan su dignidad como Dios y su destino para salvar a la raza humana del pecado y la muerte eterna. Estos reyes del este se postran. Después de rendir homenaje, el evangelio nos dice que volvieron a sus hogares de otra manera. Esto es muy importante tener en cuenta porque una vez que nos encontramos con el Señor, estamos llamados a cambiar nuestros caminos y seguirlo a casa de una manera diferente.

El amor y la compasión de Dios no tienen límites. Hoy, en la Epifanía del Señor, también nosotros estamos llamados a dar regalos que reflejan el amor y la compasión de Dios. Estos regalos no son oro, incienso y mirra, sino cosas como generosidad, respeto, compasión y bondad. Cuando ofrecemos estos regalos a otros, los ofrecemos al Rey recien nacido.

Al igual que los Reyes Magos, que cada uno de nosotros traiga regalos al Senor que manifiesten su divinidad, compasión y amor. Después de todo, estos dones tienen el poder de llevar a otros a reconocer a Dios en medio de un pesebre.
