From your Pastor...                                                                   

The celebration of Pentecost marks the conclusion of the seven weeks of celebrating the Paschal Mystery:  the Passion, Death, Resurrection and Ascension of the Lord Jesus Christ.  Today marks the promised gift of the Holy Spirit.

Pentecost also commemorates the beginning of the Church founded by Jesus Christ. This Holy Catholic Church is called to spread the visible presence of God and the work of the Holy Spirit. We are the body and the Holy Spirit is the one that inspires us to show the face of God. The tongues of fire that descended upon the Apostles revealed the presence of God just as happened to Moses in the burning bush or the pillar of fire that accompanied the Israelites to the promised land.  God was with them.

The Fire was in the form of tongues which is also symbolic.  The Church is called to speak – to speak about the Good News and to preach it everywhere in all languages.  Despite the different languages, the Spirit enabled understanding.   

This is unlike the tower of Babel in the book of Genesis.  The church is more than ready to proclaim the news of salvation.  Members of the Church are called to be united and to live in harmony with their brothers and sisters in Christ under our common Father.

After the resurrection, the disciples were in a house locked away for fear of the Jews.   However, the locked doors did not keep Jesus from appearing to them and greeting them with the word “peace.”  The Lord wanted them to abide in his true peace.

Once Jesus enters into their presence, he gives them a mission. He breaths on them.  His breath is creative just as it was at the beginning of creation.  He breaths on them to create them anew in the Spirit.  They are called to act according to the gifts of the Spirit: with wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord.

The disciples are called to bring healing and reconciliation to a broken world. This is why everyone’s different gifts combine together to build up the Body of Christ.  Our talents are not only for ourselves, but are meant to be used in service to the entire community.

Our task is the call to mind the various gifts and talents which God has given to us.  As we take inventory of these many gifts, we are then called to find ways to use those gifts in service of others in the Body of Christ.

Let us ask the Lord to breathe His Holy Spirit upon us so that, with gratitude, we may make our contribution to our community and fulfill the Mission the Lord has entrusted to us.

La celebración de Pentecostés marca la conclusión de las siete semanas de celebración del Misterio Pascual: la Pasión, Muerte, Resurrección y Ascensión del Señor Jesucristo. Hoy marca el don prometido del Espíritu Santo.

Pentecostés también conmemora el comienzo de la Iglesia fundada por Jesucristo. Esta Santa Iglesia Católica está llamada a difundir la presencia visible de Dios y la obra del Espíritu Santo. Somos el cuerpo y el Espíritu Santo es el que nos inspira a mostrar el rostro de Dios. Las lenguas de fuego que descendieron sobre los Apóstoles revelaron la presencia de Dios tal como le sucedió a Moisés en la zarza ardiente o la columna de fuego que acompañó a los israelitas a la tierra prometida. Dios estaba con ellos.

El Fuego estaba en forma de lenguas, lo cual también es simbólico. La Iglesia está llamada a hablar: hablar de la Buena Nueva y predicarla en todas partes en todos los idiomas. A pesar de los diferentes idiomas, el Espíritu permitió el entendimiento.

Esto es diferente a la torre de Babel en el libro de Génesis. La Iglesia está más que lista para proclamar el mensaje de salvación. Los miembros de la Iglesia están llamados a estar unidos y a vivir en armonía con sus hermanos y hermanas en Cristo bajo nuestro Padre en común.

Después de la resurrección, los discípulos estaban encerrados en una casa por temor a los judíos. Sin embargo, las puertas cerradas no impidieron que Jesús se les apareciera y los saludara con la palabra “paz”. El Señor quería que ellos permanecieran en su paz verdadera.

Una vez que Jesús entra en su presencia, les da una misión. Él respira sobre ellos. Su aliento es creativo tal como lo fue al comienzo de la creación. Sopla sobre ellos para crearlos de nuevo en el Espíritu. Están llamados a actuar según los dones del Espíritu: con sabiduría, inteligencia, consejo, fortaleza, conocimiento, piedad y temor de Dios.

Los discípulos están llamados a traer armonía y reconciliación a un mundo quebrantado. Es por eso que los diferentes dones de cada uno se combinan para construir el Cuerpo de Cristo. Nuestros talentos no son solo para nosotros, sino que están destinados a ser utilizados al servicio de toda la comunidad.

Nuestra tarea es recordar los diversos dones y talentos que Dios nos ha dado. A medida que hacemos un inventario de estos muchos dones, somos llamados a encontrar maneras de utilizar esos dones al servicio de los demás en el Cuerpo de Cristo.

Pidamos al Señor que sople sobre nosotros su Espíritu Santo para que, con gratitud, podamos dar nuestro aporte a nuestra comunidad y cumplir la Misión que el Señor nos ha encomendado.
