From your Pastor…

I am pleased to announce that this Sunday, March 2^nd we will have the opportunity to gather again to celebrate the construction of our new church.  At 2:00 p.m., everyone is invited to the site of the new church as we watch a brief film about St. Maria Goretti.  We will also have the opportunity to sing, visit, and strengthen our fellowship.

The reason we are focusing on St. Maria Goretti is that her relic will actually be placed within our new altar.  It is a long tradition in Catholic history to place the relic of a saint in a newly consecrated altar.  St. Maria Goretti will be honored for generations to come as holy Mass is offered on our new altar. 

Saint Maria Goretti was a young Italian girl who was martyred. Her extraordinary holiness and courage helped her to fight in defense of her purity rather than surrender herself to her attacker.  Her love of God preserved her innocence at the cost of her very life.  As she was dying she is reported to have said, “I forgive him, and I want him to be with me in heaven.”

Her attitude is a reminder to all of us that Christians should take care to defend the purity of our bodies, hearts, and minds.  This is especially important in a world and culture that all too often does not value chastity and purity.  A large part of our society does not believe in reserving intimate relations until marriage.   It is obsolete.  Moreover, we are bombarded through the internet, social media, and TV commercials with immodesty and sexual images. 

Saint Maria Goretti stood against impurity.  She is a model and witness for all of us, especially our young.  Teenagers today can learn important values from her witness to the importance of true love and not using others as objects of pleasure.    Her standards are not the standards of the world.  That is a great gift and is one of the reasons her relic will rest within our new altar. 

I look forward to seeing many of you, especially young people and teens, this coming Sunday at 2:00 p.m. as we celebrate the life and witness of Saint Maria Goretti.

 De parte de su pastor…

Me complace anunciar que este domingo 2 de marzo tendremos la oportunidad de reunirnos nuevamente para celebrar la construcción de nuestra nueva Iglesia. A las 2:00 pm., todos están invitados al sitio de la nueva Iglesia para ver una breve película sobre Santa María Goretti. También tendremos la oportunidad de cantar, conversar y fortalecer nuestra comunión.

La razón por la que nos centramos en Santa María Goretti es que su reliquia se colocará en nuestro nuevo altar. Es una larga tradición en la historia católica colocar la reliquia de un santo en un altar recién consagrado. Santa María Goretti será honrada por generaciones futuras cuando se ofrezca la Santa Misa en nuestro nuevo altar.

Santa María Goretti era una joven italiana que fue martir. Su extraordinaria santidad y valentía la ayudaron a luchar en defensa de su pureza en lugar de entregarse a su atacante. Su amor por Dios preservó su inocencia a costa de su propia vida. Se dice que, mientras se estaba muriendo, dijo: “Lo perdono y quiero que esté conmigo en el cielo”.

Su actitud es un recordatorio para todos nosotros de que los cristianos debemos defender la pureza de nuestros cuerpos, corazones y mentes. Esto es especialmente importante en un mundo y una cultura que, con demasiada frecuencia, no valora la castidad y la pureza. Una gran parte de nuestra sociedad no cree en reservar las relaciones íntimas hasta el matrimonio. Es algo obsoleto. Además, Internet, las redes sociales y los anuncios de televisión nos bombardean con imágenes inmodestas y sexuales.

Santa María Goretti se opuso a la impureza. Es un modelo y un testigo para todos nosotros, especialmente para nuestros jóvenes. Los adolescentes de hoy pueden aprender valores importantes de su testimonio sobre la importancia del amor verdadero y de no utilizar a los demás como objetos de placer. Sus normas no son las normas del mundo. Ese es un gran regalo y es una de las razones por las que su reliquia reposará en nuestro nuevo altar.

Espero ver a muchos de ustedes, especialmente a los jóvenes y adolescentes, este próximo domingo a las 2:00 pm. para celebrar la vida y el testimonio de Santa María Goretti.
