Our celebration of Easter today would not be possible without the virtue of trust-filled obedience. Jesus submitted himself to fulfill the will of the Father which led to his death on a cross. Through his obedience, Jesus demonstrated his great love for us by embracing a terrible death for the sake of all humanity. We see Jesus’ obedient love while hanging upon the cross when he said, “Into your hands Lord I com-mend my spirit” (Lk. 23:46). This sacrifice of Jesus is the highest of all sacrifices and proved his love for the whole world. We learn from the Lord that trust-filled obedience leads us to goodness and glory in our own lives just as it led to resurrection in the life of Jesus.

The proof of the resurrection was discovered when Mary Magdalene went to the tomb of Jesus and found it empty. The linen cloth lying on the floor of the tomb was the cloth that had just held the lifeless body of Jesus. Its presence reveals the victory of Jesus over death. Further proof of the resurrection came through the multiple appearances of the Risen Lord to Saint Peter and the other disciples.

Saint Paul, in his letter to the Corinthians, wrote: “If Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain” (1 Cor 15:14). The resurrection of Jesus gives us firm hope that one day all of us will be with him which means that one day we have the possibility of rising with him in glory. With his resurrection, Jesus fulfilled all his promises. By his resurrection, he opened for us the gates of eternal life. The power of sin and death has been crushed.

Let us open our hearts and minds to the power and meaning of the resurrection. As we celebrate this day, let us live as people destined for resurrection in our own lives. Let us strive to live in a spirit of trust-filled obedience, dying to sin, and living as people of joy and hope in eternal life.

Nuestra celebración de la Pascua de hoy no sería posible sin la virtud de una obediencia llena de confianza. Jesús se sometió a cumplir la voluntad del Padre que condujo a su muerte en una cruz. A través de su obediencia, Jesús demostró su gran amor por nosotros abrazando una muerte terrible por el bien de toda la humanidad. Vemos el amor obediente de Jesús mientras es colgado en la cruz cuando dice: “En tus manos Señor encomiendo mi espíritu” (Lc 23:46). Este sacrificio de Jesús es el más grande de todos los sacrificios y demostró su amor por el mundo entero. Aprendemos del Señor que la obediencia llena de confianza nos lleva a la bondad y a la gloria en nuestras propias vidas, así como condujo a la resurrección en la vida de Jesús.

La prueba de la resurrección fue descubierta cuando María Magdalena fue a la tumba de Jesús y la encontró vacía. El lienzo que yacía en el suelo de la tumba era el paño que acababa de sostener el cuerpo sin vida de Jesús. Su presencia revela la victoria de Jesús sobre la muerte. Prueba adicional de la resurrección vino a través de las múltiples apariciones del Señor Resucitado a San Pedro y a los otros discípulos.

La resurrección de Jesús nos da la firme esperanza de que un día todos estaremos con él, lo que significa que un día tenemos la posibilidad de levantarnos con él en gloria. Con su resurrección, Jesús cumplió todas sus promesas. Por su resurrección, nos abrió las puertas a la vida eterna. El poder del pecado y la muerte ha sido aplastado.

Abramos nuestros corazones y nuestras mentes al poder y significado de la resurrección. Al celebrar este día, vivamos como personas destinadas a la resurrección en nuestras propias vidas. Esforcémonos por vivir en un espíritu de obediencia llena de confianza, muriendo al pecado y viviendo como personas de gozo y esperanza a la vida eterna.
